Bayer MaterialScience Ltd. and Sumika Bayer Urethane Co., Ltd., both part of the Bayer MaterialScience group in Japan, will consolidate its offices in Kansai including sales functions under one roof in the Innovation Center in Amagasaki, Hyogo around May 2014. Sumika Bayer Urethane’s headquarters will also be relocated to the Amagasaki site.
Since expanding the Innovation Center in 2009, Bayer MaterialScience has combined the technological resources of all its business units—Polyurethanes, Polycarbonates, and Coatings, Adhesives and Specialties—producing clear-cut synergies and innovative solutions for the Japanese market. By centralizing its offices at the Innovation Center, Bayer MaterialScience will be able to address future business opportunities with closer internal coordination that will facilitate timely business decisions—putting itself in shape to better deliver customer-oriented, sustainable innovation speedily.
The Innovation Center site is the starting point of Bayer MaterialScience in Japan, having served as the headquarters of Sumika Bayer Urethane in the years 1971 up to 2009. And, ever since the expanded Innovation Center was opened in 2009, it has been a hub of Bayer MaterialScience’s technological development in Japan, collaborating with other R&D centers in the Asia-Pacific region as it pursues a wide array of activities.
In conjunction with the relocation, Bayer MaterialScience plans to invest in upgrades to the Innovation Center’s equipment and facilities. Once completed, the newly integrated Innovation Center will provide a firm foundation for the further growth of Bayer MaterialScience in Japan and a renewed window to its customers.
